Yeah, for sure, I've got a compulsive "buy a new radio" thing going on here. I bought a Yaesu 991A a few years ago - just to try something new. I've had a FT-897 for years and liked it very much. I figured I'd like the 991A even more better. Sadly, I never grew to love that radio. It's very cool - but I'm pretty deep in the Icom world and know how to operate the Icom radios a lot better than I can operate the Yaesu radios.
Since I've started getting into POTA, I decided I "needed" a 100-w HF radio that was easily portable. Yeah, I've got the 897. And, yeah, I've got the 991A (which is for sale, btw). But, you know, I wanted Icom's offering. Hence the 7300. I took it out for POTA last weekend and made 55+ contacts over the course of a couple of hours across multiple bands.
My big thing now is figuring out computer control of the radio(s), and using FT8. We'll see how it works out.
